Spring Clean Your Social Media Profile
Did you spring clean any of your social media profiles? There are still two weeks left before summer hits. It is always a good idea to regularly review your profile for updates and improvements.
Here are a few things to review:
1. Profile Photo.
Do you have a photo of yourself on your profile? If you don’t, you need to add one. As readers are reviewing your profile, they want to be able to put a face to your name.
Make sure your photo is a professional-looking headshot. Your picture should not crop others standing next to you. If your photo is outdated, take the time to update it.
2. Biography / Summary
Does your biography or summary accurately reflect your current practice?
On LinkedIn, is your summary word for word the same as your biography on your firm’s website? If yes, you need to change it. The LinkedIn summary section is an extension of your website biography. Take advantage of this section to elaborate on you especially if you aren’t able to do so in your website biography due to firm branding reasons.
3. Publications
Have you written any new articles recently that should be added to your list of publications? If your list is too long, it’s time to start removing some.
4. Professional Development
Have you recently acquired a new skill or language that would help your practice? If yes, list it. Remember to qualify your experience if needed.
Are you participating in an extracurricular activity that your audience may find interesting or have a common bond with? Adding it to your biography or summary may help start the dialogue to a new working relationship.
OK, enough reading. It’s time to start reviewing and polishing your social media profile.
